Vacancies on the Parish Council

Luddington & Haldenby Council still has vacancies for Councillors.
We currently have five councillors out of an allowance of seven, three being the minimum with which this Council can function by law.

As a Councillor you will not get paid, you probably will not get thanks but you will have the knowledge that you will have made a
significant contribution to this, the first tier of local government for Luddington village. That contribution has no ceiling but does
require a minimum of two hours each month to attend the monthly meeting to help make decisions on matters affecting the community.

This Council reduced the precept (the money received from NLC for us to manage our affairs) about three years ago and didn't increase it until January 2025.
The precept is raised from your Community Charge payments and if that has increased in recent years our portion of it has not until 2025.

The parish council is a secular and politically unaffiliated body and members may be co-opted or elected for a period of four years.
A person is qualified to be elected and to be a councillor if they are a British, Commonwealth, European Union or Irish citizen and, on the relevant day
(that is, the day of nomination or election), they are 18 or over. In addition, the person must meet at least one of the following criteria:-

On the relevant day and thereafter they continue to be on the electoral register for the parish

or

During the whole of the twelve months before that day they have owned or tenanted land or premises in the parish

or

During the whole of the twelve months before that day their principal or only place of work has been in the parish

or

During the whole of the twelve months before that day they have resided in the parish or within three miles of it.

These qualifications then continue for the full term of office, until the next ordinary elections.

Certain people are disqualified from standing, and these include paid officers (including clerks) of the council,
bankrupts and those subject to recent sentences of imprisonment.
